CHAIRMANS REPORT
Christmas is upon us and I would like to wish all members and their families a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Our Club is still running successfully with more wins than losses in Tuesday and Saturday Pennant.
FINAL NIGHT FOR THE YEAR AT WARRANDYTE RETREAT RESTAURANT TUESDAY 6TH.DECEMBER 6.30.p.m.
I have booked for 20 to 30 for the 6th. December night.
Please roll up and celebrate an early Christmas Party with fellow members.
BERNIE HENDERSON
From the Club Secretary
The last Inc meeting adopted a new By-Law A, which provides the rules for the Pennant Bowls and Championship Section. The new By-Law provides for the establishment of a Championship Match Committee which will consist of 4 club members to be elected at each AGM.
The duties of this committee are broadly to -
- arrange the drawing and playing of all club championship events,
- organise major club invitation bowls events, and
- co-ordinate club entries into Regional and State events.
The new By-Law A has now been posted onto the website and on the notice board at the club (with changes highlighted). The first of these committees will be elected at the May 2012 AGM.
The November Inc meeting also established a sub-committee to examine options for rejuvenating or replacing the grass green, which we all recognise as being in sub-standard condition at the moment. A full range of options, their costs, advantages and disadvantages will be investigated. The sub-committee recognises the need for urgent action, but this will be balanced with a requirement for a thorough investigation. The aim is to provide a recommendation which can be taken to club members and Council.

Notice from Chairman of Selectors : CLUB UNIFORM
Following representation from a number of club members your Committee is investigating the addition of dark green pants to our uniform for season 2012/13 to replace the existing white/cream pants for all pennant games and Bowls Victoria championship matches.
You will of course still be able to wear your whites/creams for club days, nominated days at other clubs etc.
We are considering purchase of "off the shelf" garments through Doncaster Sporting Gear to overcome the problem of the Club holding stock and unnecessarily tying up funds that may be utilised better in other areas of the Club.
Both track suit style pants and tailored trousers (both men and women's styles) appear to offer us the most flexibility.
Depending on the quantities ordered cost would be between $35.00 and $50.00 each. However, we are in discussions with our sponsors and are confident of their support which will reduce the cost to members significantly.
We are working towards putting a proposal to members for approval at our Annual General Meeting next May.
For those members who are considering purchasing new pants/trousers in the near future it may be prudent to defer your purchase until after the AGM.

CLUB COLOURED CAPS AND BUCKET HATS.
Our full order of Club caps and hats has now been received after lengthy delays, but the hats / caps appear to be popular and are quite visible.
Each member, if they have not already collected theirs, can get one bucket hat OR cap free and additional items of either type can be purchased for $10.00.
- Caps are adjustable and one size fits all.
- Bucket hats come in two size -
Small / medium (56-57) and medium/large (59-60)
All sizes are now available from the bar.
It is suggested members put their names in their hat as they are "pretty hard to tell apart" if left around.
TUESDAY SELECTORS REPORT.
At almost the halfway mark of the season we have two sides in top four positions. The third side could move into the four after a good win this week, depending on other results in their section. The fourth side had their first win this week. Congratulations to Jackie Fandrich's team for getting an "8" in round 7.
The singles championship event is nearing completion but the pairs are starting to get behind the time lines.
Gary Glenister is still in hospital, Stan Craker won't be bowling for a while and Jan Brooke hopes to be back in January. Cheryl Mc Anally has had a slight setback. We wish them all a speedy recovery.
Thursday, December 15th is our last game before the Christmas break so we will have a Christmas get together at the club after the games. Please bring a plate of Christmas fare to share.
Practice on Thursdays will recommence on Jan 5th with our first matches on 17th January.
The selectors wish everyone a very happy Christmas and safe holiday.
No Stopping our Julia!
Julia DeMarchi won the Yarra Region Womens U25 Singles Final.
She played Taylor Spence from Bundoora RSL in the Final.
Scores were Julia 25 defeated Taylor 24.
In an exciting game Julia led 20 /10 and looked to have game under control but Taylor was not to be denied stringing together a number of winning ends to lead 24/21 and looked to be on the verge of success.
However, Julia steadied herself winning the final end and the match 25/24.
Julia will now represent Yarra Region in the State Final 16 on Sunday 5 February 2012. Venue to be advised in due course.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE
Some memories from Melbourne Cup Day:

A bowler stood at the Pearly Gates; his face was worn and old
He meekly asked the Man of Fate , admission to the fold,
What have you done ? " St Peter asked , " to seek admission here , "
"I was a selector at a bowling club for many and many a year ,"
The gates swung open sharply as St Peter touched the bell ,
" Come in ." he said , " and take a harp . You" ve had enough of hell ,''
WISHING ALL CLUB MEMBERS & FAMILIES A JOYOUS CHRISTMAS AND GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN THE NEW YEAR ALSO GREAT BOWLING .
BEST WISHES SOCIAL COMMITTEE.
Humour Corner this month, thank you Ron Gibbs....
The Chinese give each year an animal name to describe the expected characteristics of the year. Some people think this should apply to Skips.
What do you think best describes the characteristics of your skip?
GIRAFFE - Risk taker. Sticks neck out
ELEPHANT - Slow & steady. Good memory
TURTLE - Conservative. Doesn't stick neck out. Low risk. Slow but gets results
SNAKE - Devious. Sneaky, cold hearted
GOLD FISH- Poor short term memory. Makes same mistake each season
PIG - Greedy. Always wants more shots every end. Has little regard for others
CHEETAH - Bends rules and unsportsmanlike
LION- Leader. Aggressive. Strong
ECHIDNA - Prickly. Painful. Easily upset
RABBIT - Easily distracted. Headlight scared
Bull - Intimidates. Strong. Little thought. Headstrong
HORSE - Carries the team
KOOKABURRA - Funny, relaxed. But targeted. Can beat the snake
EAGLE - Strategic. Patient. Majestic. Smooth
Evidence has been found that William Tell (of arrow & apple fame) and his family were avid bowlers. However, all records were unfortunately lost, thus we will never know for whom the Tell's bowled.
WE THANK OUR SPONSORS FOR THEIR VALUED SUPPORT
